so ashamed.

So every once in a while, when I've watched all the shows I like and know of on Hulu, I search for a new show. This time, I found one that I really shouldn't admit to watching. Its completely ridiculous. Think "Gossip Girl." Although I've never actually watched that show, I imagine this one is pretty similar. Here, take a gander:

Oh it's so dumb. But I can't stop the teenage-high-school-murder-stalker drama. I secretly hope they will cancel the show so I won't have a choice but to quit watching it.

pee and snot

It was a long day. First of all, I didn't sleep more than 2 hours last night. Then, I had to be at work at 6am and work until 10. Then I came home and tried to sleep a little, then went to class at 1. THEN I had to work again from 4-8. While at work tonight, I:

1.) had to clean up a kid's pee in the play structure. Definitely old enough to have not peed his pants. He didn't even say anything. Another, younger kid pointed and said "wet." Gross.

2.) had a different kid wipe his snotty nose all over me as I was holding him while he was crying. He was crying because he was tired and didn't want to be reprimanded (and I was tired, so was all about the reprimanding today). Instead of sitting in time out like he was supposed to, he wanted to be held and sob all over my sleeve (why do they do that?! Every kid I hold while they are crying feels the need to wipe their nose on my shoulder.). Gross. again.

Now, its time for bed. Hopefully I'll actually sleep tonight...

un día en clase...

I had to write "una composición" today in class about my childhood.

1.) It made me remember all the fun times I had with the sibs. Playing in the ditch (what? that's not weird...), in the barn, playing school, etc. Ahhh the memories! Wouldn't trade my childhood for anything! I'm just glad the brother and sister get along now :)

2.) my classmate, Carrie, started laughing at one point while writing hers. We laugh a lot in class, we have fun. But I asked her why she was laughing and she said she had to look up a word to write "había una bailarina travesido." or, "there was a transvestite ballerina." I said "uhhhh we had very different childhoods..." The rest of the class was looking at us like we were crazy since we were laughing so hard and it had been completely silent in there. So funny, ohhh español!

summertime!

This is the sole reason why I love summer so much. Berries! Well, maybe nice warm sunny days are the real reason, but fresh summer berries are a close second. I went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday with my friend Annie, where I couldn't stop myself from buying a half-flat of berries! We walked around a little before I decided which stand to buy from (which I'm glad we did, as the strawberries at all the other stands were tiny and not-so-great looking). I got 3 pints of strawberries, 2 pints of blue and 1 pint of raspberries. All for $15. Not cheap by any means, but so worth it. I froze some and ate the rest. Literally. They're all gone a day later except for the berries in the freezer. Yum! I don't know why I haven't gone to the market more often. That's a lie, yes I do. I usually get off work at 12:30 or 1:00, which is THE craziest time to go there as there's a ton of people milling around. But we waded through the crowd and it was worth it. Even managed to wait in line for lunch (tamales. world's best tamales.).

Anyway, after a little homework (or a nice nap...), Annie and I met up again for church. Loving Solid Rock! Great church, great people, great messages, great ministries...so nice to find a church I really like!

Today (Sunday), I went to work (early, since my manager was too sore from her circus acrobatics class to work her whole shift....hilarious!). After, I came home and then went outside and laid in the grass in the park blocks for an hour or so in the sun. Think I got a nice little vitamin D boost, not to mention a little color. Now its time for some more Spanish homework....wanna know what I'm studying? The different meanings and usages of "de," "con" and "en" (essentially "of," "with" and "in," respectively). Fun times. I won't even tell you how many rules there are for each of these tiny prepositions.

suckers!

So I bought this shirt at Target. Then I wore it a couple times and then I washed it. Then it shrank. Weirdly. Which made it fit really awkwardly. Sooo I decided to try to return it. I took it to the store and said this shrank and I can't wear it anymore. And the lady told me that that isn't an acceptable reason to return. Basically said, "it's cheap. what do you expect?" Sooooo I went to another Target. Where I said, "gee, I don't know what happened to the tag!" And she said "oh that's no problem. Here's your $14.99." baaaaaahahahah take THAT Target! You may ask why I did that for a mere $15. But hey, $15 is $15! Now I need to try this at Old Navy... :D

p.s. while writing this, I couldn't figure out if "shrank" or "shrunk" was the correct word to use (both just look totally weird to me now). So I googled it. Ohhh google. Here's what I found:

The simple past tense form of “shrink” is “shrank” and the past participle is “shrunk”;
it should be “Honey, I Shrank the Kids,” not ”Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”
(Thanks a lot, Disney.)

“Honey, I've shrunk the kids” would be standard, and also grammatically acceptable is “Honey, I've shrunken the kids” (though deplorable from a child-rearing point of view).

joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart

Such a great weekend! Started off bad as I had to take my Spanish final which made me so nervous I thought I was going to puke. Literally. I've never been that nervous for a test before! Anyway, turns out it wasn't nearly as hard as I was expecting and I think I did pretty well after all! Then we found out that little Sierra May does NOT have Cystic Fibrosis. Hallelujah! Then we just hung out Friday night and THEN went to the ZOOOOOOO!! So much fun! We got an early start as we didn't want it to be too hot. Sierra had fun and was so cute looking at everything.

So I didn't really take any pictures of the animals, just of Sierra. She was way cuter than the animals anyway! She wasn't as impressed with most of the animals as the rest of us were. I think her favorite parts were the Elephant Ears and snow cones and the petting zoo (where she wanted to ride the goats like a horsey...).

After the zoo (and a little nap for everyone), dad, mom and I went to see the Lion King!!! I was so excited to go and knew it was going to be great. But I didn't know it was going to be that amazing. It was incredible. The costumes, the songs, the music, the whole thing. It gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes! Beautiful! Here's a little taste (not a video I took-that wasn't allowed).

Oh my goodness. I just can't even describe it and that video doesn't do it justice! We were in the balcony seats on the very end, so we were just about as far away from the stage as you could be. But we could still see everything just fine and it was still thoroughly enjoyable! Soooo glad I got to go see it, and think everyone should go see it at some point! I realized that's the first actual Broadway type show I've ever been to. So maybe I just thought it was so amazing for that reason. No, I take that back, it was just flat out incredible! Anyway, it was a very enjoyable weekend! Lots of fun things :)

life lessons

There are a few things that I have realized since working at the Kid's Club at the gym:

1.) There is nothing on the planet that is more fun to read than Dr. Seuss. Especially not if you're reading out loud. But even if you're reading to yourself. I may have to get some Dr. Seuss books to just occasionally read because its just so enjoyable! I was reading The Cat in the Hat to the kids the other day and was sad when they got bored because I wanted to keep reading it. I may have kept reading to myself while they went off and found something else to play with...even just these simple lines from the book are so great:

"The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold, wet day."

"We looked! Then we saw him
step in on the mat!
We looked! And we saw him!
The Cat in the Hat!"

“Look at me!
Look at me!
Look at me NOW!
It is fun to have fun
But you have
to know how.”

“'Have no fear, little fish,'
Said the Cat in the Hat.
'These Things are
good Things.'
And he gave them a pat."

2.) Winnie the Pooh is adorable and everyone should have a friend like Pooh Bear. And don't forget about the Tiggers and Piglets and the rest of the gang. The movie "Pooh's Grand Adventure" is so great! I don't remember ever watching it before I worked at the gym. So many good little nuggets of wisdom and cute sayings! Anyone who is willing to face Skullasauruses and Jagulars and Woozles to rescue you from "Skool" is the best friend that exists.

"Without a monster or two, it's hardly a quest; merely
a gaggle of friends wandering about"

"Adventure, it's a wonderful thing! Pack only the essentials,
I'll tell you what to bring: your strength,
your nerve, your hearts, your wits."

"You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."

3.) Disney movies are to blame for me still being single. You watch all these movies when you're a kid and then your little-girl brain gets filled with the idea that someday, the Fairy Prince is going to fly into your window and you are going to fall in love in one night, he is going to rescue you from some tragedy, then you will live happily ever after. Yeah, that doesn't happen. But after watching that so many times, or whatever version of that story, you expect it. (maybe minus the "Fairy" Prince part...I'll take just a regular prince, minus the wings and pixie dust.) I realized this today while watching Thumbelina. Maybe I should quit expecting to be carried off into the sunset on a white horse (or on a bumblebee)...or else I'll end up like Cruella Deville or someone. Not quite the Disney ending I've been hoping for...

ahhhh, the life lessons you learn from kid's stuff!

a day of independence

So I went to Falls City (it's okay if you have no idea where that is) to hang out with Kayla and Cody for the 4th. I had to work both Saturday and Sunday, so went down there Saturday after work and came back Sunday early-ish. So technically I was mostly there for the 3rd. But whatever. Them country folk sure do know how to put on a good fireworks show.

It was a pretty good show and we had a great spot to watch from! Sunday, we got up and went to breakfast, then went to see the kitties that a friend of theirs had. We got there and they didn't like us. They wanted to run away. But we were quicker and smarter than them. Well, than a few of them anyway.

this little guy ^ liked Kayla's boobs...he didn't move from that
position the entire time she was holding him.

They were hiding in amongst some stinging nettles apparently. So Kayla
got stung while trying to catch one. But she still caught it even though
she was squealing in pain the whole time!

The car broke down on our way to Cody's parent's place...so he
and his brother had to come rescue us.

Anyway, it was a fun time! Then I came back, went to work, then went to Kevin and Helen's for a bit. They fed me dinner and then we drove around trying to find some fireworks. They found a place that they want to go next year! But there were too many people there for us to find an actual parking spot. We still got to see a little bit though (against poor Bella's wishes)...

All in all, a pretty great 4th of July! Congratulations on your independence, America!

yikes.

I just got out of Spanish class. I was kind of excited to take Spanish this summer since it's an accelerated term, much more intense. I thought I'd like it. Only its hard. Really hard. Like, "I just got a D on a quiz" hard. I don't get D's. I don't think I've ever gotten one before, even on just simple quizzes. Ay yi yi. Fortunately they drop the lowest score. And if I get a score lower than that at some point, I shouldn't be going to Spain anyway.

Guess who's doing a butt load of studying this weekend?!?!

One good thing that has come out of this class so far? The best word ever, in any language. "Pipirisniquiris." Just say it. "Pipirisniquiris." Oh so fun! I tried looking it up online and can't find a definition for it. So it may not be an actual real word and maybe my professor just made it up. According to Oscar, it means like a picky person. Persnickety maybe. I don't even care if its a real word, I love it!

Guilty pleasures...

So there are a couple of websites that I go to every once in a while, and then, hours later, finally force myself away from. Okay maybe not hours later (not usually anyway...), but you get the drift. I just get wrapped up in them and can't stop looking! One of these websites is Texts From Last Night. People are ridiculous. That is the lesson I have learned from this site. Here are just a few nuggets from it:

(843):

it's like i need an invisible sign across my boobs that says "DOESN'T HAVE DADDY ISSUES" that only old men can see

(978):

i know you like preteen girls so i'm gonna offer you some advice...dump a bucket of glitter on yourself and walk into the sunlight. they will come running.

(520):

2am update: i think I'm in Mexico but I found a dennys. Everyone but this cute family of 4 is speaking Spanish. Cute family of 4 is helping me out.

(732):

Every day I regret the life decisions that led me to bank management and NOT being a coke addicted stripper. Every. Single. Day.

Haaaahahah oh they make me laugh! A couple of those may only be funny to me because I relate to them somewhat. I'll let you guess which ones.

The other website I spend way too much time on is We Heart It. (maybe I just spend too much time on it because it takes FOREVER for it to load on my computer...kind of annoying). They say their website is full of "inspiring images and videos." I would be inclined to remove the "inspiring" from that, but its still entertaining. Some are really pretty, lovely photos. Others are weird. And yet others are just self portraits of incredibly vain people. Either way, its pure fun in my book. Here are some lovely examples of what you can find there:

Well...there were going to be a few pictures. But I'm pretty dumb and can't figure out how to get them posted on here. soooo, you can go look yourself!
hilarious
pretty funny

also, on a side note, today at the gym I saw something pretty hilarious. An older guy was working out and wearing a fanny pack. Pretty funny in and of itself. But that's not all. At one point he opened his fanny pack and pulled out, what else, a Sony Discman. HA! Who uses discmans and who wears fanny packs?! That dude, apparently. So funny!
